Back to school ’09

Today was the first day of school for Colleen and Christopher. They both said it went great. Colleen has been “so excited” for school to start for the past week, and she came home saying how great it was today. She was most impressed that you can get pizza EVERY day in the cafeteria and that there is a separate sub sandwich station. Ahhh, the perks of the new school she is attending. Christopher wasn’t quite as thrilled but he said it went well. He did say that he got confused when the teacher asked everyone who had been to the “thinking chair” before and he raised his hand (even though he has never been there before). I’m just glad he remembered to get off of the bus this year on the first day at our stop and that he didn’t forget his backpack again (although somehow he lost the card that you wear around your neck saying which bus you’re supposed to get on…hopefully that turns up tomorrow).

A note got sent home with Christopher saying there is a kid in his class with extreme peanut and other nut allergies. It said not to bring anything nut related and that if your child eats anything with nuts for breakfast at home that they have to wash really well before coming to school. It then said a list of approved snacks could be found on the back of that piece of paper. I found it funny that the back of the page was blank – given the tone of the letter that may have been intentional 😉

We went to the state fair twice again this year. Kristin, Tom, and Big A were up last weekend from KCMO. We had a great time and helped set the all time state fair attendance record – something like 1.8 million people attended this year. It was cold last weekend. How cold was it? Cold enough to get Beth to dress up like this!

We also went to the Mall of America with K & T and of course had to stop and visit Spongebob and Patrick.

How come no one has told us not to buy a pool? Even the sane people that I’ve asked haven’t said we’re crazy. I’m struggling with needing money some day verus spending now while I can still enjoy it. There’s plenty of time to save for college and weddings and who knows what else later on, right??? Give me your opinion – save it or spend it?

Hard to believe another school year is starting already. Glad to hear both had a great first day and am sure they will continue to enjoy it and do well. I don’t recall having those choices in the cafeteria when I went to school, but for 35 cents the food was usually pretty good. I think we had to pay 2 cents for an extra milk. I like the first day of school picture. Looks like all are off to a good start. Keep it up.

Interesting picture of Beth and Christopher. It must have been cold! With 1.8 million people comfort is certainly more important than fashion. When I enlarged the picture to check out the hat (that’s a corn dog, right??) I couldn’t help but notice the large reptile like creature that looks like it’s covered with trash. Sounds like everyone had a good time.

I didn’t comment, but enjoyed all the pictures of your trip up north. Glad you could get away and that everyone had a great time. Enjoy your family outings now. Possibly in a few short years your teenagers won’t be as willing to get away and enjoy outings with the family and it will be more difficult as summer jobs and other activities interfere with vacation schedules. Famous Dave’s sound like a neat place (especially if your name is Dave).

To pool, or not to pool, that is the question. I can see pros and cons. More important than my opinion, what issues have you and Beth tossed around? Sounds like a good topic after a few beers when all of us are together in October. If you’re looking for a solid “yea” vote, we should certainly include Uncle Tom in the discussion.

Looking forward to seeing all of you a month from now. Mom/Grandma T. is doing great. She went outside on crutches yesterday and climbed the stairs today. Guess I’m going to have to keep things picked up as she’ll be able to check up on me now. She goes in Monday to see the surgeon. He should be pleased with her progress.

Thanks for the update and pictures. We always enjoy them.

    Love,

    Dad and Grandpa T.

Hey! Love the pics. And, I love the Christopher stories. Can’t wait to see you all in a few weeks… can’t believe how fast it’s coming.
Did you get a pool, or are you just considering it? You sound like Erik. He keeps talking about a pool. Lucky for me when he talks about it, I can say, “don’t forget, we still have to re-finish the floors and finish our bedroom/bathroom upstairs”.
What was dad talking about with the large reptile covered in trash? What am I missing?

  3. Dave T says:

2 cents – crazy! Yes, a corn dog (on a stick) hat. That monster covered in trash is (I believe) a fish that is covered from junk that was pulled from the Minnesota River (something like that). So thanks to all of the boaters out there for making that pile of crap possible. We’re just considering the pool. Are you guys looking at an inground pool???
