Lazy days of summer

Here is the fort I built for the kids – too bad I ran out of blocks or I would have made it higher. And if only I would have thought to move this to the front yard before jacking it up – we could have been trend setters! The good news is they think they fixed the leak on their 4th try…

The zoo opened up another new exhibit this summer – Russia’s Grizzly Coast and the kids love it, although their favorite parts aren’t the animals…instead the girls like the bubbling mud pots, Christopher likes the steaming geysers…and they all like the ice cream…

For some unexplicable reason they all wanted their pictures taken today…a lot…

The 4th of July isn’t complete until we decorate the bikes/scooters and walk in the kiddie parade…they handed out bags of goodies to the first 300 people…in typical fashion we proudly claimed goodie bags 298-300 (whew!).

The fire department brings the “squirt house” to the 4th of July every year. I used to help with this (and really enjoyed it) but it’s at least a two person job keeping track of our kids now on the 4th so I’m taking a break from helping. I instead did a shift from 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. – pretty quiet with the small exception of icing a sprained ankle. In my 5 or 6 Fourth of July celebrations with the fire department I have yet to hear about fingers getting blown off by fireworks…or any big fires starting…they typically are pretty quiet…which is good.

And can you believe this sweet, innocent looking child decided to answer the question for all of us “what does it sound like when you throw money into daddy’s brand new air conditioner?” The answer is a lot of repeated clanging, banging, clinking, and smashing, followed by a child crying 🙂
