Happy Anniversary

June 9th, 2010

Happy Anniversary everybody. Hope you went out and had the times of your lives. Things are still out of control here and I’m losing ground. Had a great trip and got to see Grandma T. She was still quite with it – but the hearing thing makes it hard. She had a sense of humor and I’m glad the kids got a quick chance to see her. It’s hard to do such a quick visit – glad we did it but am left wondering if we should have stayed longer even though I know that wasn’t very realistic.

Surprised the kids with a trip to the Wisconsin Dells after Rochester – went to a new place this time – Wilderness Territory. It was huge but not necessarily better. We got to play outside this time though. Wheee.

Christopher has been in this phase where he wants me to take two pictures. And then smiles differently in both of them. He never asks to see the pictures afterwards – but he always wants two taken as he experiments with which look will get the ladies. Hey ladies – which one drives you crazy, the one above or this one?

Keeping gaining weight. We have to go out for ice cream every time Colleen scores a goal and she’s on a roll now – 1 or 2 goals each the last 3 or 4 games. Plus Beth bought herself a cake for her birthday – at Costco. The thing barely fit on our counter. Supersize me.

Kids are getting richer. Colleen lost two molars in the past few weeks. Christopher keeps losing teeth too – I think he pulls them on purpose just to make a quick buck. Not sure he understands his supply will run out soon at this rate.

Go Celtics. Common KG. Get your act together.

Tomorrow is the last day of school. Woohoo. Raa raa.

Couldn’t fit plates or bowls in our cupboard so I paused a minute and carefully analyzed the situation. I think the problem is that we have enough gum scattered throughout the cupboard to fill an entire freezer bag. Stay with me here…[me] Alex, I’ll take compulsive shopping for $400. [Alex] The answer is “Zero”. [me] What is how many of those packets I’ve bought? [Alex] Correct.

Went to Schooner Days again (or Scooter Days as Megan keeps calling it). Megan loved every ride and went or more than anyone. I just ate cheese turds by the fistful.

I forced Christopher to ride with Megan – he was very glad to do this and couldn’t contain his excitement (hey buddy, keep that attitude and I bet that other guy in the picture can tell you where you’ll be in 15 years).

How about this one -my camera takes amazingly fast pictures – not a blur at all. Or maybe it’s because the kids came to a complete stop on the slide. Lamest slide I’ve ever seen. The dude even let them go again – he sprayed Pledge all over the hilly parts before they went – didn’t help Megan at all. Boooooo.

Recharging

May 25th, 2010

Life has just been too busy lately and I can’t catch up and work is a lot of work and I get zero sympathy at home and I could go on and on…and I really, really needed my spirits recharged. It’s amazing how sometimes things just happen to fall right into place exactly when you need them…and this time it was a string of little, tiny things just to remind me to keep at it and that in some way I am making a difference. For instance, little thing #1. I’ve been working harder with one of the 4 year olds on Megan’s soccer team…she has been shy and reluctant to come onto the field and didn’t want to play…so I keep gently nudging her to join us. This past week she started warming up to me bit by bit and when it came time to choose teams for a scrimmage she came over to me and asked if she could be on my team, I said sure, and she was very happy about that and said “I love you”. It was sweet. The next day was her birthday and she came over to kind of tell me about it. It was funny when the other coach chimed in and she wouldn’t say a word to him or even really acknowledge him.

Little thing #2 – the next day at practice I stayed late to answer questions that one of the mothers had. They are from Somalia and she wanted her son to improve his skills. We talked and ended up being the last two cars in the parking lot. Sure enough…she went to start her car and it wouldn’t start. So Christopher and I gave her a jump. By the time we were finishing up other cars had started to pull into the lot for the next round of soccer games. I was wearing a coaching shirt and one of the moms came over and said there ought to be a special award for coaches that go above and beyond.

Little thing #3 came tonight at cub scouts for Christopher. The fire department brought their ladder truck for the egg drop. I wore my EPFD t-shirt but didn’t ride on the truck. I went over to talk to the guys on the truck and they said I should go up in the bucket to drop the egg contraptions. That’s always a fun job (even with storm clouds approaching in the distance – yikes) so of course I did it. Not sure if we went 90′ up or not but we were pretty high and had fun watching bags, boxes, cans, turtles (cardboard), etc go splat. We came back down and the truck left and we’re walking into the meeting when one of the scout masters walks up to me and asks if I want to do a talk on fire safety. I said – yeah, I could do that sometime – and he said “how about now?”. Gulp. So I walked in front of all the kids and parents in the troop and talked for 10 minutes about this and that and had the kids practice a fire drill and stop/drop/roll. It ended up being fun and I got huge thank you’s afterwards. Another reminder to keep doing the small things and be spontaneous – things will turn out ok.

Ok, enough blah, blah, blah. Here are some pictures. Christopher and Colleen debate who has to sit through more boring performances that the other puts on (Kung Fu versus dance performances). Not that I would ever take sides, but don’t listen to a word that your sister says about kung fu Christopher. 2 years and counting for the father-daughter dance recital. Buy your plane tickets in advance for that one!!!

We head to Rochester on Friday at noon (and head back Saturday at noon – don’t ask). Keep us in your thoughs as we drive on those busy roads. There was a bizarre accident in Minnesota yesterday. Two cars got smashed between two semi trucks – nasty, two people died. The crazy part is that the truck in front was carrying 17 million bees. Luckily only 6 million escaped during the accident!!! Fire fighters had to stay on scene for hours spraying water to keep the bees either away or calm. Glad that one wasn’t in Eden Prairie.

Breakfast in bed

May 9th, 2010

Nothing beats having your kids bring you breakfast in bed. The kids and I got up early today and decided to make waffles, pancakes and crepes – so we measured and poured and cracked and mixed and got everything ready. While we were doing that I plugged in the waffle iron and turned on the skillet. The waffle iron starts heating up and we got a few wiffs of waffles cooking – smelled so good and we hadn’t done anything yet. So we keep measuring and pouring and stirring, and the smell from the waffle iron starts to smell more burnt that good – but we haven’t even opened it up yet – haven’t even poured anything on to it. A few minutes pass…and the smell is getting worse…so I decide to open the waffle iron (sometimes it overheats – that could be it, right?). But no…it wasn’t just overheating…it was completely burning a waffle that was in there (yes, we stored the waffle iron for probably 3 or 4 weeks with a waffle in it – oh sure, like you’ve never done that???). It took a while but someone (not me) now remembers cooking that last waffle (doesn’t remember what happened to it after that, but remembers cooking it)…and I’m sure I saw the closed, cooled-down waffle iron on the counter and figured it was ready to be put away…so that’s what I did…a month ago 🙂

Makes my mouth water just watching the steam rise off of it:

Other than the sacrificial waffle we had a pretty good mother’s day. Church was amazing today (Mozart’s Requiem with guest soloists and 19-piece orchestra to accompany our chancel choir and organ), followed by burgers and shakes at Convention Grill, planting a ton of stuff in our yard (which may be a bit risky since we had FROST this morning), and some Vietnamese take-out for dinner (whatever mommy wants, mommy gets). The best news of the day though was reading the sports section and seeing that E’Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson withdrew their names from the NBA draft and will both return to Purdue for the senior seasons!!! Boiler up!

Thank you mom, dad, Katherine and Sarah for coming out to visit us a few weeks ago. We had a great time. It went so fast but it was great to see everybody, and catch up on things, and to hold and play with Sarah so much. She’s so cute and at a fun age (I kid you not – enjoy it – time goes way too fast). Thanks for letting me win in dominos too. Glad Christopher didn’t share his strep with anyone…

Sarah – here you are at the Children’s Musem. Someday you’ll have to ask mommy to show you how baby possums are made. Your mommy horrified children and parents all around her at the museum by turning an innocent hand puppy into a birthing exhibit. We started out innocently talking about ‘opossum’ versus ‘possum’ (BTW, both are acceptable) and then your mommy got out of control playing teacher for all the kids.

Here’s my bid for National Geographic’s sentimental animal photo of the year…mommy duck staring at the broken egg behind her…no new eggs yet but daddy duck is sure trying to make up for lost ground…easy big guy.

And here’s the graduating class of 2010…I’ve only seen two fish since their deployment several weeks ago…once it warms up I’m sure I’ll see them all again (either that or I’ll find another big snake living in the pond).

Megan has started saying “big ol'” – as in “that’s a big ol’ rock” or “big ol’ weed” or “big ol’ flower”…where does she pick this stuff up? Here she is with a big ol’ rat from preschool.

April 19th, 2010

Christopher is 7!!! Beth and I survived his first sleepover party (4 other boys stayed over). None of his friends had ever been to an official sleepover so this was a bit of a test for several of them (and us). They all passed – no issues at all (whew). The theme was Star Wars – which basically means a lot of fighting with sticks and light sabers and anything else you can get your hands on.

Here’s what’s on Christopher’s mind this year…

My favorite food is…pasta for lunch or dinner and crepes for breakfast (sounds familiar)

When I grow up I want to be a…scientist (again). He’s still not sure what kind of scientist (he says he’ll decide what kind when he grows up).

My favorite restaurant is…Noodles & Co (yuck)

My favorite stuffed animal is…Floppy the bunny

My favorite color is…blue, red, and green

My favorite song is…I’ve Got a Feeling (by the Black-Eyed Peas)

My favorite holiday is…Christmas (because he gets tons of presents and because it is the day that Jesus was born – yes he said that – without prompting – but presents come first)

My favorite season is…winter (because it is fun to play in the snow and ice)

My favorite thing to do is…play computer and Nintendo DS

If I could do anything tomorrow I would…go to the Wisconsin Dells (that’s what he said last year – I guess some things never change)

So…my ducks have been slow to come back this year. I’ve only seen momma and poppa a few times in the backyard. Mr. Ducks have come by a few times – and I’ve seen a few daddies on the roof (I think they spend the night there sometimes)…but Orca seems to be scaring them away. Grrrrrr. Bad dog. I have yet to see any fish yet either…keep your fingers crossed (Beth has given up and is ready to buy new ones…I’m giving them another week and keeping my fingers crossed).

Instead of ducks we have monkeys in our trees…not sure which I prefer 🙂

I ran 8 miles Saturday in my annual 50K team event through the dirt and mulched paths of a very hilly park. It went great – beat my time from last year so I haven’t peaked yet. Can’t wait to see everybody in a few days – the weather has been perfect for days and days but now they’re saying rain Friday and Saturday – figures.

Colleen comes home every day now from school and begs for an email address. I still haven’t figured out how to handle that one…but I’m wearing down. She’s fine if I can read everything she sends and receives…that’s a start. Mom and Dad didn’t have a tv until they were over 10, I didn’t have a computer until I was over 10, and Colleen’s sob story is that she didn’t have an email account until she was over 9 – I wonder if her kids will be able to believe that!!!

Spring Break

April 12th, 2010

What a great week! We started at the Great Wolf Lodge, hung out with some old friends (drank lots of yummy wine and some even yummier varieties of oatmeal stout beer), saw a magic show, saw How to Train Your Dragon (in 3D, of course), went for a bike ride & to a park, got the pond & stream working in our backyard, found the first tick of the season on me (we haven’t had very many tick encounters in Minnesota – this was rare even though ticks used to LOVE me), and ended our week with perfect weather.

The Great Wolf was fun as always. E & Wendy came up from Lafayette so it was great to hang out. I thought maybe on Easter that there would be less people – but no, it was the busiest we’ve ever seen it. Somehow the Easter Bunny still found us – in our hotel room and in the water park. The younger kids got to find eggs in the play structure area and the big kids got to find eggs all over the entire water park – there were eggs everywhere.

E & Wen brought an extra kid – you should see the photo after this one when I had everyone make crazy faces.

We went to Jeremy Allen’s Grand Illusions show. They started the show with funky music and these native-type people came out on stage in grass skirts and big masks and were pounding on drums while they moved around. They didn’t do any tricks but just got the show started. After that Jeremy Allen did all sorts of cool tricks and amazing illusions – it was really a pretty good show. Afterwards I asked the kids what their favorite part was – Colleen liked when they put a lady in a box and then made her head move all around separate from her body. I forget what Christopher liked, but when I asked Megan she so cutely said “the dancing monkeys”. Everytime I think about her saying that it gets me laughing all over again…so innocent and sweet 🙂

After four years we have our Dells routine pretty set. We typically go to the Moosejaw restaurant. Beth can’t resist sampling the 10 microbrews they offer there so I go along for the ride and try to enjoy myself. When we were driving home from the Moosejaw a year ago that’s when Dan called me to say they just had their baby…not sure what all I said to him then but I’m sure it wasn’t my proudest tipsy moment. You can’t leave there without everyone wearing antlers…maybe next year we’ll ask directions on the proper way to wear them.

The Great Wolf used to have this awesome 4-story air gun area where you blasted each other with nerf balls. They replaced the guns and balls this year with MagiQuest . You pay crazy amounts of money for a wand that sort of works and then go on quests and adventures. The game actually isn’t all that bad once you start playing – Colleen and Christopher both did good at it while Megan was just happy running around and around and around. After we completed our quests we then had various spells (e.g., freeze, lightening, protection) so we could go on adventures and try to kill a dragon or goblin. We decided our first adventure would be to kill the goblin. You’re supposed to use your lightening spell to kill the goblin but my theory is that somehow Colleen mixed up her spells and used freeze instead because the video screen completely froze as she was casting her spell (and she was beating him too) and…they couldn’t fix it…and it was broken for over a day (for all the kids)…don’t mess with Colleen’s magic powers – she is a Master Magi!!!

Ok – here’s the quiz…quick, find Beth in this picture:

Did you find her? The correct answer is “no, she’s not in this picture”. If that wasn’t your answer then please keep that to yourself. Another correct answer would have been “I forgot to look for Beth because I was so distracted by Arnold Schwarzenegger standing next to Christopher”.

Can’t wait to see some of you in a few weeks. The weather is beautiful here – sunny, 60’s and 70’s, and the days are getting longer.

Baking in our blood

April 1st, 2010

Randomness…

Here is the beautiful cake the kids made with their cake decorating kit (thanks Aunt Katherine). Yes, I’m glad you asked, it definitely tasted as just as good as it looks.

We’ve been training Christopher to at least leave the table when he’s going to let one rip. When you come to visit – if Christopher suddenly runs from the table and then suddenly runs back, please remember not to ask him where he just went. Either he or Ms. Megan will be more than happy to give you a very direct answer. So…here’s my proud parenting moment of the week. Listening to Christopher in another room say “Cannon fire one” (followed by you know what)….”Cannon fire two” (yes, again, followed by you know what). We feed him beans for breakfast, what can I say.

Saw our pheasant in the backyard this week for the first time this year. Spring is almost here. And our daffodils are blooming – I can’t remember that ever happening this early.

Here’s the first draft of a poem Colleen is writing for school – shhhh, don’t tell her I shared this here:

Colleen
Friendly, silly, jolly and kind.
Lover of ice cream, pizza and parties.
Who is grateful for my friends and family and sad for my grandma.
Who needs friends, pools and puppies.
Who is afraid of ghosts the dark and big storms.
Resident of xxxxx Minnesota.
Thompson

I’ve had to buy a few pies for the fire station lately. Guess news is slow and the paper got desperate.

Here are your tax dollars at work (can you find me 37 seconds into the video – don’t blink – but this still qualified for pies – grrrrrr) – the next time some cows gets loose they will most certainly be impressed with my mad herding techniques. Yeehaw.

WDIO TV – Duluth – Animal Rescue Training

Christopher’s now a double yellow belt (or something like that). I can still whoop him though. I’m letting my hair grow out just like his instructor’s.

Hippity hoppity…

Spring? Really?

March 21st, 2010

GO PURDUE!!! You show Obama and all the other doubters. He hate me.

The weather is still fighting to stay between 40 – 50. Warm enough for the kids to stop wearing jackets in the backyard (they’ve been out playing in their pajamas the last few mornings) and for the whole family to take a long bike ride today. Our Minnesota kids are tough. I was telling a co-worker about our vacation plans this summer (where the kids decided that they would rather go up north than to Disney World). Her response was great – she said we “managed to raise true Minnesota kids” – she’s absolutely right. All people in Minnesota want to do is go up north to their cabins – and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

Here are a few pictures from before the ice melted.

Christopher and I went ice fishing with the cub scouts. He was excited beforehand…and I’ll leave it at that. Here he is cleaning the bits of ice out of the hole so that your line wouldn’t get caught. The ice was close to 3′ thick.

Not sure who this old man is on the bucket.

The kids didn’t have school a few Friday’s ago so the YMCA had a “pirate day” theme. Megan wasn’t included in that yet she is the only one to give me her best pirate face in the picture. Yeah Megan!!! Thanks for not being too mature yet for daddy’s goofy requests.

Colleen and Megan had another dance show at the Mall of America. I think these shows rank right up there with ice fishing for Christopher.

After the show we got to play on the rides – wheeeeee.

I would like St. Patty’s day a lot better if the leprechauns wouldn’t color our milk green. Grrrrrrr.

Lucky Megan gets to play with mommy’s doll from childhood. The doll creeps me out and somehow Megan managed to get her hair and expression similar to the doll’s in this photo. Now they both are creeping me out.

Walk softly and carry a very big stick. Spring is here…maybe…

I just skimmed through the book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Familes”. It’s similar to “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” but is geared for families. Not sure how truly accurate this is but there was a chart showing the top disciplinary problems according to public school teachers. Crazy how far the world has come (and not in a good way):

1940 – Talking out of turn, chewing gum, making noise, running in the halls, cutting in line, dress code infractions, littering

1990 – Drug abuse, alcohol abuse, pregnancy, suicide, rape, robbery, assault

And I’m not letting Beth talk to mom anymore on the phone. Everything is fine when I talk to mom and dad, but when they talk people break their ankles, animals go blind, and the economy starts to hit way to close to home. You’re all in our thoughts and prayers.

Snow go bye-bye

March 14th, 2010

It’s crazy how fast all of the snow disappeared. We just have a few piles here and there but this last week or two of above-average temps melted most everything. We hit the 60’s today…the sidewalks were packed with kids going back and forth and around the block.

I’m not going to post any pictures today…just a bunch of randomness. Yesterday (March 13th) is the first day I noticed Mr. Mallard back in our pond. He visited a few times yesterday, and visited even more today. Orca isn’t convinced he’s a friend of ours yet…I think I’ll have to put up some chicken wire to keep her out.

Before the snow melted I noticed deer prints in our backyard…I didn’t see any deer this year (part of my annual checklist: see a deer in our yard; pick-up a turtle in the neighborhood; watch ducks hatch in our pond; find a cocoon in our yard), but now I know they’ve been around recently. And we finally found our sled that was lost in January. It was in the spot that I first checked way back when…guess it was too far below the snow already or maybe I didn’t quite step on it. Kind of like a big game of battleship in the yard.

I remember mom saying that when I was a little kid she found folded underwear in the hamper (i.e., I thought I was fooling her by saying I changed my clothes and then would throw in the clean stuff). Apparently Christopher has a different problem. I was doing laundry and the kids often take off their pants and underwear together…so I was pulling a pair of underwear off of his inside-out pants legs…and then I pulled another pair of underwear off of those same pants legs. He’s going to run out of clothes if he starts wearing two pair of underwear all the time!

Christopher and I were talking about punishments the other day and I told him that mom used to chase me with a wooden spoon. His dumbfounded response was “Seriously?”. I’m not sure which part of that scenario was the hardest for him to believe but it made me laugh.

Aunt B – are there no mailboxes in Florida? are you afraid to put that much $ in a regular envelope???? let’s go – my kids gotta eat. 🙂

Eyes in the back of my head

February 28th, 2010

Megan has asked a few times lately “Do you really have eyes in the back of your head?”. She’s very serious about this and convinced parent’s can see behind them and that somehow we really do have eyes back there. We need to use this to our advantage with her – yes, we definitely can always see what you are up to – so stop doing whatever it is you either are doing are were thinking about doing!

Last week Megan was very excited to celebrate her 1/2 birthday in preschool. Beth’s parents were up from St. Louis so Megan conned them into baking a cake for her at home too. They came up to help out (thank you thank you thank you) while I went on my annual ski trip to Vail. It was a great few days out there as always – we even found 1 1/2 feet of powder in the back bowls. Skiing out there in that much powder is awesome. I was strong this year – my legs and lungs felt great the whole trip which isn’t always the case when you’re sleeping and skiing between 9,000′ – 11,500′.

Mother Earth is angry this year, huh? Another huge earthquake, another 3′ of snow out east, what’s next? Hopefully New Hampshire and B-water weren’t hit too bad and electricity is still on for everyone. We are having 35F days now but still have enough snow on the ground that we haven’t found the few sleds that got burried well over a month ago…they’ll turn up one of these days/weeks/months. Yesterday I climbed 30 flights of stairs in fire gear. That felt good too. I may not look as young as I used to in these photos but I get in better shape each year!

Tilikum is giving our puppy a bad name – I’ll be careful not to dangle my ponytail in front of Orca, who knows what she’s capable of. And how about those Boilermakers. Life is going to get tougher (starting this afternoon against michigan state) without Hummel (tore his ACL last week) but we’ve had a great run. Yesterday the #1 & #2 teams both got beat which would have been interesting to see where Purdue (#3 in the country) would have ended up after they beat michigan state today. Not having Hummel will make a difference. He should just suck it up and play!!! Keep your fingers crossed – Boiler Up! Christopher and I are going ice fishing today during game time…and during the Olympic hockey final game…not the best timing 🙁

Kids being silly outside – their socks came of next and then they ran in the snow – brrrrr.

I took the kids out on the lake two weekends ago. I was surprised to have the beach, lake, parking lot, and playground all to ourselves. Who would have thought?

Can you read what Colleen is writing?

This is after I tried to wipe the snow off her face…poor puppy…

No Disney???

February 9th, 2010

Let’s just start by saying…Boiler Up! Drew Brees blowing away payton and the colts. Purdue beating iu in bloomington. Purdue beating michigan state in east lancing. Boiler Up!!!

Seems like things just keep getting busier. This past Saturday I started the day by running up 50 flights of stairs with a bunch of fire fighters to the top of the tallest building in Minneapolis. I did it under 11 minutes so I was happy with that. While I was doing that, Beth had the other three kids downtown before 7:00 a.m. to rehearse for a dance performance that night. The girls danced at the Timberwolves game (we watched the T-wolves win their 4th in a row for the first time this season) – they girls did a great job. I don’t know if they’re getting better or my standards are getting lower 🙂 (I’m positive it’s the former).

And Megan smiled during her performance this time…small steps…

Megan’s favorite part of the night…her cotton candy reward after the performance…

Here’s a link to a video of the entire performance (Per Beth: Megan is wearing white, pink and black – the first minute Megan is in it a lot. Colleen is wearing purple and black – minute ~3:17, ~3:40 and ~4:50 you can see Colleen up close).

Christopher also had a presentation at school – this is when his career as a drummer starts!

And then…Colleen and Beth spent all day Sunday afternoon (yes, Super Bowl Sunday – think a woman was in charge of setting that up?) at Girl Scout International Day. Here’s Colleen looking very International!

I feel like all I’ve done the past few days is shovel snow. Every time I get back inside I turn around and go shovel again. But I love snow. I love shoveling. I love watching it pile up and cover everything. Bring it! I spent 5+ hours at the fire station last night on standby just in case we had to get somewhere in a hurry. The most exciting call was that a roof partially caved in on a house that also had squatters in it. In Eden Prairie no way? And even if it was in Eden Prairie our dispatcher has to know you don’t say things like that over the air about Eden Prairie. Common.

And I’ve got some great news somewhat related to winter. We did it. There is a new Christmas light champ on the street. Our neighbors across the street have been winning this one for years. But this year we held out. I left it up to the kids and asked them if we should give in and take our lights down. They said no way. Actually, they said we should leave them up all year. So…on the 5th of February we were the undisputed last house on the street with our Christmas lights up. Do we have to call them President’s Day lights if we go another week or can we still call them Christmas lights? Who cares – we win, you lose, now you get a big bruise!

Ok…help me out with this one. Tonight at dinner I asked the kids where they wanted to go on vacation this year. I said they could go anywhere. They said “the Wisconsin Dells”. We can do that. They know we’re already doing that. Easy enough. Then they asked “the State Fair?”. But of course. Not really a vacation…but we can do that. They said “up north?”. Yep we can do that. So I said, anywhere, you name it, where do you want to go? I listed some places (Grand Canyon, Mexico, Disney World). They didn’t even pause and said “how about up north for a whole week?”. We said “no Disney World?”. Nope. No interest at all. They had their reasons. Up North for a whole week wins. So…the question is…if the kids could care less about Disney then do we force it? Will their childhood be any less fulfilling? Up North is great (I like it more every year) – in fact, we’d love to have any of you join us up there in the summer. I guess we revisit this later on…I tore out an article a while ago saying that most parents take their little kids to Disney for themselves, not for their kids (i.e., the memory of how you picture your kids at Disney is more rewarding to parents than the experience of Disney to the kids). Whaddaya think?
